On top of Banda hill where the area is a neighbourhood, is a military detach that provides security for the existing palace of the King of Buganda. The area is mainly an education centre with a lot of schools around it. The neighbourhood is the slum area of Banda, which is mainly a low income housing.

A number of schools are found in this area and these include the following; Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo (ITEK), Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK) and Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE). In 2001, the three merged to form Kyambogo University.
