Literally the area is a portion of Banda hill, which houses the campus of Kyambogo University.
On top of Banda hill where the area is a neighbourhood, is a military detach that provides security for the existing palace of the King of Buganda. The area is mainly an education centre with a lot of schools around it. The neighbourhood is the slum area of Banda, which is mainly a low income housing.
A number of schools are found in this area and these include the following; Institute of Teacher Education Kyambogo (ITEK), Uganda Polytechnic Kyambogo (UPK) and Uganda National Institute of Special Education (UNISE). In 2001, the three merged to form Kyambogo University.

In the neighbouring Banda, a number of up scale housing mainly meant to house university students have been and are being constructed.
