Luzira is a Kampala suburb located in Nakawa division, best known for the country's main prison, known as "Luzira maximum security prison".
It is located approximately 11.5kilometres (7.1mi), by road southeast of Kampala main business district. The area generally over looks lake Victoria.


Generally the place is industrialised, significantly with the breweries companies like Uganda Breweries and Nile Breweries and the fish manufacturing industry, due to the existence of Luzira landing site.
The cool breeze from the lake and a number of beaches, make it an interesting place for life.


Luzira has a number of bars, clubs and a football pitch that is used to host national league matches, by the Luzira based football side, Maroons or Maroon Prisons which was started as a prisoners' football team.


There's a number of good schools including kindergartens, primaries and secondary schools like, Bishop Ciprian secondary school, Luzira SS and Lakeside college.
